Re John Luke Painting and wider development proposals for Rosemary St
I can confirm after discussion with my colleagues in Forum today that
EHS:HBU regard the John Luke painting discussed on my site visit as
forming part of the historic fabric of the building and protected by the
listing. We have a body of precedent for this opinion.
If the Order wishes to remove the painting then Listed Building Consent
must be obtained.
I was interested to hear your information as to the creation of a new
street as part of the development plans for the area.
A new street which allows access to the side of the existing Masonic
building would resolve many of the difficulties encountered in earlier
feasibility schemes for the premises.
In particular the problem of allowing full access to the ground floor
and rear block without losing the important main circulation spaces and
stairs greatly expands the options for new uses for the building.
